The Lions were unusually motivated when they hosted Green Bay

The Lions were unusually motivated when they hosted Green Bay at Tiger Stadium on Nov. 22, 1962. They had lost to the Packers 9-7 earlier that season.
"We had a vendetta. We had a game to make up for," defensive tackle Roger Brown said. "We gave them a gift up in Green Bay, and we wanted to set the record straight."
Bart Starr and the Packers were never really in the game, losing 26-14. Detroit had nearly a dozen sacks, returned a fumble for a touchdown and scored on a safety, too.
The Lions provided a play-by-play transcript from that game. At one point, it reads: "About half of the Lion team dropped Starr for a 10 yard loss."
The game was part of a seven-game winning streak for Detroit, which finished 11-3.
Gail Cogdill caught two touchdown passes from Milt Plum, and it was 26-0 before Green Bay scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to make the final score respectable.
This season, it's Calvin Johnson making big plays at wide receiver. Cogdill called Johnson "an absolute stud."
"The guy is just awesome," Cogdill said. "I think he's one of the great weapons the Lions have."

Bowyer made his NASCAR debut with RCR in 2004 and has made all 206 of his Cup starts for the team

Bowyer made his NASCAR debut with RCR in 2004 and has made all 206 of his Cup starts for the team. He reportedly is mulling a contract offer from Richard Petty Motorsports and said Childress' assessment of the situation was accurate.

"It's fair," Bowyer said. "We're just working on everything. That's the biggest thing. Trying to get everything done as far as the future.

"There's opportunities and stuff we're trying to weigh out. You've got to have all the stars line up. You can't one piece of the puzzle or a couple pieces. You have to have the whole puzzle put together. Until you do that, you're wasting your time talking about it in the media because you don't have anything to deliver."

Bowyer bristled when asked about his contract two weeks ago at Bristol Motor Speedway, calling out a reporter who wrote a story intimating Bowyer's demands included a helicopter.

Asked Thursday how close he was to a deal, Bowyer laughed and said, "I'm still waiting on my helicopter. My best friend wants a miniature pony, too."

Bowyer said he had been "focused 100% on making the Chase (for the Sprint Cup)" until Tuesday's rain-delayed race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, where a 36th essentially ended his bid for the 10-race title run.

"It's been a short week, not much time to do anything, let alone work on work-related stuff," Bowyer said. "It's hard to get your life turned around in two days to get back on the road. I ain't been at the shop or been anywhere."

Bowyer has four Cup victories and made the Chase in 2007, '08 and '10. He also won the 2008 Nationwide Series championship.
